About
I'm Ivan Gentile, a Senior Data Scientist and GenAI Tech Lead based in Bologna, Italy. I work at IFAB Foundation, where I lead the AI innovation pipeline — currently focused on RAG-based ESG analysis on the Leonardo supercomputer.
Background
I studied Physics and Mathematics at the University of Groningen (2015–2020), then Complex Adaptive Systems at Chalmers University of Technology (2020–2022). The thread connecting these: understanding how order emerges from complexity, whether in physical systems or neural networks.
Teaching
I've taught AI and machine learning at LUISS Business School, Pi School, and H-FARM — mostly to people who aren't engineers but need to understand what's coming. Now I'm giving courses on agentic AI and AI-assisted coding for professionals.
My approach: build intuition before formalism. Understand why something works before memorizing how.
Research interests
- Generative AI applications and impact
- AI safety and AI ethics
- Complexity science, intelligence, and emergence
Beyond work
I practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and yoga, and maintain an Obsidian vault that functions as a personal knowledge architecture. I'm currently interested in how we build tools for thinking — both computational and personal.
